Russia. Motor Rally “STOP AIDS” Helps Sex Workers

15 cities from Vladivostok to Moscow host concerts addressing AIDS issues where participate such famous artists as Vlada Topalova, Lera Masskva, Julia Checherina, Sveta, “Kones Filma”. As part of the program a number of lectures and presentations on STI prevention was organized for school and university students, round tables and meetings took place with participation of young generation and representatives of ministries and institutions and journalists. Cities participating in this motor rally also hold HIV testing for citizens, counseling with doctors and specialists.


The aim of this rally is to promote HIV preventive measures among Russia’s citizens, mostly among working youth in Russian regions, raising awareness in HIV/AIDS issues, developing tolerant attitude towards HIV-positive people.

While visiting Kamchatka, the motor rally organizers helped one sex worker avoid unlawful prosecution. Later she joined the rally.


A local newspaper published her name and address as soon as it had found out about her HIV-positive status and in this way endangered the woman. When people in her city read about it, that is when her life was in jeopardy. It is planned that the girl will have to change her address with the assistance of rally organizers.
